The CGH
Curriculum Development Model
The CGH Curriculum Development Model ensures
that all CGH curricula reflect the interdisciplinary nature
of health and the realities of fieldwork.
CGH Curricula are:
interdisciplinary.
Our curricula are developed in collaboration with more than
50 representatives from various professional backgrounds and
organizations.
respond to real
needs. We assess the needs of communities served
by international agencies and community-based organizations,
and determine what competencies health providers need and
which teaching methodologies will be most effective. Ongoing
feedback from faculty, participants, and community-based organizations
ensure our curriculum is up to date.
link theory and
practice. We focus on "training how"
rather than "teaching what." Two faculty membersone
from the academic community and one from the fieldlead
each course, using a highly participatory approach and addressing
the experiences and needs of participants. They link lessons
closely to clinical fieldwork, collaborative global health
research, and other field work in which participants are engaged.
fosters research.
Through our collaboration with academic, government, and community-based
partners in immigrant communities in the U.S and their countries
of origin, we offer a unique opportunity to conduct interdisciplinary
multi-country comparative research.
translate research
into practice. We incorporate the latest research
on global health into our curriculum, so these findings can
quickly be put into practice in communities. Research findings
also help us develop strategies to improve response to global
health challenges.
flexible.The
CGH Curriculum can be adapted to meet the needs of advanced
degree students or practicing professionals and expanded to
a degree program or condensed to a workshop.
